Tracing Remnants

Tracing Remnants is an original illustrative series by Lucas Swick that combines vector line-art, masked photography, and tattoos.

Prints are available in our Etsy shop.

The first illustration in the Tracing Remnants vector tattoo series was created for Boom Boom Burlesque.

Each piece begins as a photograph. I spend a few hundred hours in Illustrator using the pen tool to mask each tattoo and create the line-art illustrations. The more complicated the tattoo, the longer it takes to draw the vector mask.

Each leaf on the model's back was redrawn by hand with vectors.

There are thousands of anchors in the model's tattoo. Each leaf is drawn by hand.

Because of the nature of vectors, each piece can be blown up to enormous proportions without losing fidelity.

Vector drawing this model's tattoos took quite some time Closeup showing the vector line-art of the model.
Each tattoo has enough vector detail to be admired on its own.

This model has many tattoos. Each one is vector traced in an homage to the original tattoo artist's work.

The combination of vector line-art and photography means the tattoos you see are the actual tattoos from the photo.
